With more than half of the states enjoying PrePass, we are nearing the goal of ubiquitous e-screening at all major weigh stations as a real possibility. At the same time, with the success of AgPass, GatePass and PrePass PLUS we see the migration to stage two begin: convergence around a technology that begins widespread reforms. Further toward the belief we're approaching system reform is the growing number of our customers inquiring about new transponder-based applications including: traffic management, expedited border crossing, electronic manifests, e-permitting, asset tracking and, safety enhancements and homeland security initiatives. HELP must NOW establish a bold, stage-two transportation vision for ITS CVO. Just as the vision of the Interstate and Defense Highway System set in motion the direction of our nation's transportation system for the past 50 years, a collective vision of an ITS CVO future can be a driving force behind seamless freight movement for many years to come. We are the organization to initiate the leadership - a public-private partnership involving government and motor carrier leadership half of the states. No one else can come close. |
While the precise nature of future ITS is uncertain, electronic information on drivers, vehicles, company credentials, freight and routes will underpin most all applications that will be deployed to facilitate seamless freight movement. That's precisely where we, in partnership with ACS Government Solutions Group, excel. Transportation system information will permit highway agencies to more effectively manage investments in the infrastructure and its operation or failure -- such as traffic incidents and crisis management. That same information will enable carriers to maximize the value of their assets while adhering to federal, state and local requirements. And it will assist safety officials to better target unsafe drivers and get bad trucks off the road, provide timely and accurate traveler information as well as assist in assuring our nation's homeland security. How can this be achieved? At the heart must be unparalleled cooperation between government and industry to share, leverage and agree upon limitations on this information. Through our unity in HELP we have been able to overcome these challenges as we've researched, proven and deployed PrePass, AgPass and PrePass PLUS . We must again unite as we look to a new, more efficient future.Richard P. Landis President and CEO |
